APPETIZERS:
MOWEE BITES:
10/10
If you are a seafood lover, the Mowee Bites are a must-have for your table. These Mowee Bites serves 4, with large filets of Mahi, a sweet and tangy mango salsa and ginger sauce, topped with crispy potato strings – all wrapped up in large leaves of lettuce. I crave these appetizers all the time because it is so light and refreshing without the compromise of the crunch. If you want something light for your meal, you can order this as your entree as well!
ENTREES:
GRINGO BURGERS
10/10
The Gringo Burger was the Scottsdale Burger Battle People’s Choice Winner in 2016! This burger is made with white aged cheddar, louis remoulade, shredded romaine, and crispy onion strings topped with an artisan bun. This burger screams gourmet – every single topping is unique and different, but balanced well. Specifically with this burger, I love the use of white aged cheddar instead of regular cheddar or American because it provides a sweeter taste and looks more upscale visually. The shredded romaine adds the freshness needed to cut through the meaty burger. The crispy onion strings taste like a refined onion ring and it pairs perfectly together.
FUNGHI SUBLIME:
7/10
The Funghi Sublime burger was the 2018 Scottsdale Burger Battle Champion! This Burger is smothered in sauteed mushrooms and finished with imported truffle gouda and a specifical dijonnaise on an artisan bun. This burger is full of truffle umami flavor and the gouda cheese is intense and smoky. To me, this burger needed something acidic or fresh to cut the intense meaty cheesiness of the burger, but I can understand why mushroom lovers would enjoy eating this burger.
THE NOTHING BURGER:
9/10
The Nothing Burger is for the people who enjoy a classic simple burger that doesn’t compromise on flavor. If you want to know a burger restaurant is good, always check to see if you would enjoy eating their original burger. The classics are famous for a reason! This burger is made with high quality beef, cheddar, lettuce, raw red onion, juicy tomato, pickles on an artisan bun. It’s delicious, nostalgic, and satisfying.
OUI OUI MONSUIER!:
10/10
The Oui Oui Monsuier! Burger caught me by surprise. In my opinion, it is the most underrated burger in the menu. This is a patty style melt, that has caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, and dijonnaise sandwiched between seeded rye bread. The best part of this burger? It’s served with a side of au jus. There is so much umami in the caramelized onions that is paired perfectly with the stretchy melty gruyere cheese and perfectly cooked meat. The seeded rye This is one of the most comforting burger I’ve ever had, and it’s perfect after a long hike in Sedona.
SAMURAI SUPREMO:
7/10
The Samurai Supremo is a signature maple teriyaki burger, topped with a charred pineapple slice, wasabi-ginger sauce, and haystack potatoes on an artisan bun. If you like Hawaiian style pizza or sweet and savory elements in your meals, this could be the burger for you. I think there needed to be a spicy element like jalapenos to contrast the sweetness in the burger, but you can always request that from your server! Overall, it was a decent burger, but I prefer the other popular menu items over this one.
THE HOT DOGGY:
9/10
The Hot Doggy is one of the newer menu items at Butterfly Burger. This hot dog is sourced from Creekstone Farms and made with 100% Wagyu Beef and frame-grilled to perfection. It’s topped with your choice of a signature mustard relish, pico de gallo, grated cheddar and crispy potato strings or a house made chili with queso fundido sauce. For those who eat halal, the queso-fundido sauce contains pork so be sure to sub that out for your meal. This hot dog had a satisfying snap, and the signature mustard relish provided the acidic tang it needed to cut through the fat. This is a delicious entree to try for those who are not into burgers!
SIDES:
BUTTER FRIES:
10/10
The butter fries were thin and crispy, similar to the fries you would get at McDonalds. Fried to perfection and simply seasoned with salt ultimately making it the perfect side. They have many sauces to eat this with on their menu but if you want to stick to the classics, go for their house made ketchup! These fries are a must to share with your table.
YUCCA FRIES:
9/10
If you want to venture out and try a different kind of side, but still have those familiar potato flavors – I recommend getting the yucca fries. These fries are cut from yuca, which create a crispy exterior and soft, slightly sweet and fluffy interior. This restaurant dresses these yucca fries up with parmesan, chimichurri and a smoky pimento aioli and it is delicious.
SWEET POTATO FRIES:
10/10
It’s not easy to get sweet potato fries to crisp up, without burning the edges and remaining soft in the inside. Butterfly Burger has mastered the technique to its perfection. If you want to amp these sweet potato fries up with more flavor, ask your server to dress the fries the yucca style way! They serve the sweet potato fries with a chipotle aioli, but I prefer eating these with the house made ketchup instead. These are also a classic must-have for your table.
TRUFFLE PARM TATER TOTS:
8/10
Tater tots are not my usual go-to when ordering a burger at a restaurant but I can see the appeal for many people who want to try a potato dish outside of your regular fries. Although, I could not taste the truffle flavor as much on these, they were pretty good. I wouldn’t order again, because they had stronger sides in my opinion, but I still enjoyed eating these as a side dish!
BUTTER BEANS:
4/10
These butter beans are served as one of the choices of a side for your entree. The beans were well-cleaned and mild in flavor. I wasn’t a huge fan of this side dish to eat with my burger but I do appreciate the chef creating unique side dishes for those who want to try something outside of the standard potato sides.
3 SEED COLESLAW:
4/10
The 3 Seed Coleslaw was one of my least favorite side dishes. The flavor was lacking and the coleslaw became soggy quickly. I would have preferred this coleslaw with some classic cabbage instead of the celery seed which overpowered the vegetables. It was really tangy and hard to enjoy alongside my burger.
POTATO SALAD:
5/10
This is your classic Yukon potato salad. The chef provides a hefty portion that can be served for two per person. This potato salad is served cold and fresh tossed with red onions. dill and parsley to provide lots of texture. Unlike many potato salads, this one wasn’t overly dressed with mayonnaise and you can taste each ingredient in here, making it a herby potato salad rather than a creamy one.
OVERALL:
Overall, Butterfly Burger is an exceptional restaurant with food served from high-quality ingredients made by Chef Lisa Dahl. It’s one of the best places to eat in Sedona, Arizona and never a long wait time to be seated. The chef took their time to think about each ingredient and menu item and it shows in the food. I could come back here again and again and will always look forward to the experience.
