Dahi Baray is a street style snack sold in Pakistan, and are especially popular during Ramadan. These lentil fritters are coated in a yogurt sauce and topped with smoked red paprika. This street style snack is perfect to eat after a hot summer night!
Dahi Baray (Lentil Fritters in Yogurt Sauce)

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 Cup Urad Daal
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Yogurt
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 2 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt

DIRECTIONS:

1.) Soak the 1/2 cup of urad daal (yellow split lentils) in a large bowl overnight.

2.) Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the blender. Add 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and red chili powder and blend until smooth.

3.) Pan fry the fritters on medium heat. Fry the batter until golden and crispy.

4.) Pat excess oil off on the fritters to allow the fritters to remain light and crispy.

5.) In a separate bowl, add 3/4 cup of yogurt, 1/4 cup of water, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and 1/3 teaspoon of salt. Mix until incorporated. Add yogurt sauce over the fritters.

6.) Garnish the fritters with roasted cumin and red paprika powder. Serve and enjoy!
